A special skills group for Eighth graders
You may have heard about our stress management for 5th and 6th (and some 4th) graders, focusing on building healthy relationships and wellness and relational skills. In this socially distant marathon, it’s important for all of us to practice relational skill building and stress management. For 8th graders, there is an additional challenge of preparing for the new world of high school. Our bridging group for 8th graders can help smooth the transition to high school. Middle adolescence is a critical developmental period for youths transitioning from middle school to high school. This last year has been taxing on more than just our pocketbooks and mental health. It has also affected our relationships!
A lot is changing for our 8th graders besides a new school. There may be hormonal changes and flourishing romantic interests. It can also be a difficult time for parents and their children to connect and relate. While parents can work to remember the minds of 8th graders are not fully developed, we at BCC can also help your 8th graders learn coping and relationship skills that may help them navigate this stressful time. High school is a whole new beast, so to speak, and your 8th graders are about to become the small fish in a big pond. Some aspects of high school can be intimidating, but we’re here to help.
To ensure we are building bridges for our bright young middle schoolers, let us guide your 8th graders into a successful first year of high school through relational skill building. You just might feel the benefits too! This group includes expressive arts, (supplies provided by the BCC) relational skills, and specific stress management skills. Participants will leave with ideas on how to push back against peer pressure, managing difficult behaviors such as procrastination, getting better sleep, and identifying thought distortions. Drop your name and the best way to contact you in the contact box below, or call us at 812-669-2227 and leave a message.
Group starts March 25 and goes for 6 Thursdays from 5:30-6:30. The meeting is virtual. Cost is on a sliding scale, $10-$30, with complete scholarships also available.
