Jessica Troxel

Jessica “Jess” Troxel is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and graduated with her
degree from Indiana University School of Social Work (IUSSW) in 2018. She has used her experience to instruct MSW students at IUSSW and provide field supervision for social work students, as well as expand her therapeutic interventions.

Jess seeks to empower clients by integrating neuroscience-based psycho-education into
practice to optimize treatment outcomes through fostering a better understanding of how trauma is stored in the body, and the intersections of physiology and psychology in healing mental health and trauma. Jess integrates theories and interventions to meet client needs, including Relational Cultural Theory (RCT), polyvagal theory (PVT), and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). Focusing on bottom-up approaches is central to her practice. Jess is a Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) provider, using sound therapy as part of treating trauma, when appropriate for the client. Jess’s combination of approaches allows the client/therapist team to create the safe relationship that is foundational to healing and growth.

Jess was drawn to Relational Cultural Theory (RCT) because it helps connect the cultural perspectives and influences on relationships, and, more importantly, the influence of our culture on the reinforcement of traumatic reinforcing of policies, regulations, and laws that perpetuate systemic oppression. RCT facilitates alignment between her values and Social Work values. Jess uses the intersection of RCT and EMDR to understand relational and cultural traumatic stressors and the importance of social support in healing. This eclectic approach supports self caring in relationships and generate a guide for prioritizing and understanding what relationships are central to reinforcing the oppressive patterns that society nurtures and perpetuates.

She works with ages 16 and older, including families and individuals in crisis, relational, developmental, and shock traumas. Jess strives to providing a safe and calm energy in the therapeutic space.

Jess enjoys time with her partner, family and friends and is a mom to two adult children. Jess loves inspiring and intellectual talks with friends and is an okay-ish plant mom. Jess values self- care practices for everyone.
