Therapeutic Role-Playing Games

Welcome to the world of Relational RPGs, a transformative approach blending Relational-Cultural Therapy (RCT) with the narrative possibilities of Therapeutic Role-Playing Games (TTRPGs). TTRPGs have been captivating imaginations for decades, inviting players to create unique characters and embark on collaborative adventure. These campaigns offer rich ground for exploring and addressing mental health concerns. A Therapeutic Role-Playing Game offers skills for managing depression and anxiety, as well as opportunities for healing trauma through metaphor and play.

What are Relational RPGs?

Relational RPGs are a unique experience combining TTRPG mechanics with relational facilitation. Through integrating principles of RCT, we create a space where connection and collaboration drive growth. This approach deepens relationships, fosters communication, and highlights the dynamics between characters as metaphors for real-life relational skills.

A Relational Role-playing game includes a game leader called the narrator, as well as a clinician. The narrator is responsible for running a relational game. The clinician is there to help participants and the narrator hold a trauma-responsive environment. While the clinician might play as an NPC (non-playing character) they are mostly there to support the narrator in creating a growth-fostering experience. At the same time, the clinician is available to participants who are activated or upset by a game session.
